Subaru will use the 2013 Los Angeles auto show to preview the next version of its Legacy sedan with this concept car. The timing of the 2015 Subaru Legacy concept’s debut not only looks forward, but also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Legacy nameplate.
The Ocean Silver Metallic concept car has a short, plunging roofline that more closely resembles a coupe than a four door sedan. A strong character line forms an arc from the edge of the flared front fender and is resolved in the bracket-shaped taillights that extend onto the rear fenders. Out front is a modern, chrome-adorned version of Subaru’s irregular-hexagon grille, accompanied by projector-style headlights ensconced in bracket-shaped LED running lights. Twenty-one-inch wheels are driven by standard all-wheel drive, and Subaru’s EyeSight stereoscopic safety camera system hides at the top of the windshield.
Although the coupe-look design and bold lines are a serious departure from the current Subaru Legacy, this concept car is clearly a preview of the next-generation production model. Our spy photos of a 2015 Subaru Legacy prototype revealed a similar curved roof and swept-back headlights. At the same time this 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan concept appears in L.A., Subaru will also show off the Levorg concept at the 2013 Tokyo auto show, which previews a future Legacy wagon. That concept car employs a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, though Subaru has offered no hints as to what might power this four-door Legacy concept.
Reports suggest that an all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy will debut in the U.S. market in 2014, signaling that this concept car is probably an early preview of the production model that will bow in less than a year’s time. It remains to be seen how much the stylish, futuristic design is toned down before the next Legacy reaches Subaru showrooms.
