The Porsche Cayenne is going under the knife for a nip-tuck, and the procedure will include the addition of a plug-in hybrid model. These spy photos reveal that all versions of the Porsche Cayenne will receive a mild facelift at the same time the battery-powered variant arrives.
Parent company Volkswagen Group confirmed in a financial report that it would introduce a plug-in hybrid Porsche Cayenne this year. The move comes a year after Porsche’s only other front-engine car, the Panamera sedan, enjoyed a freshening and the addition of an S E-Hybrid model. Like the Panamera, expect the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid to combine a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine with a 9.4 kWh battery pack and a 95 hp electric motor, providing an all-electric driving range of close to 20 miles.
The test car seen here clearly sports a charging port on its left-rear fender, the opposite side to the fuel filler cap. There are no other obvious differences visible, but if other Porsche models like the 918 Spyder and Panamera S E-Hybrid are any indication, look for lime-green brake calipers and badges to help distinguish the eco-friendly variant.
Our spy shooters also managed to catch standard versions of the 2015 Porsche Cayenne, which appear to benefit from a mild face lift. At the front, we spot a new fascia with reshaped lower air intakes, while the rear sports a new bumper design. Given how much camouflage tape is applied to them, we also expect the taillights will be redesign, possibly to look more like those on the 2015 Porsche Macan. The Cayenne, meanwhile, could also receive some mild mechanical tweaks. The S model will most likely follow the lead of the Panamera S, swapping its 4.8-liter V-8 engine for a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6.
Expect the refreshed 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and its plug-in hybrid variant, to debut at a major European auto show later this year.
