2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Facelift Spied

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake isn’t likely to be added to Mercedes-Benz’s North American product portfolio anytime soon, but judging by the lightly-disguised prototype recently photographed in Europe, the CLS63 AMG family – including the four-door sedan sold here – may soon receive a mild facelift.

Calling this cosmetic update a facelift might be too generous. From what we can tell, the updates to the CLS63 AMG’s appearance are largely restricted to the lower front fascia. Although cloaked by plastic sheathing on this prototype, the updated 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG appears to sport lower air intakes that are larger and more rounded, much like those used on the recently introduced 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG model lines. This particular prototype also appears to feature headlamp assemblies with darker bezels than before, along with a restyled rear diffuser.

Despite the visual update, don’t expect the facelifted 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG to pack much additional power, as the CLS63 AMG model line only recently received a powertrain update. In North America, base-spec 2014 CLS63 AMG 4Matic cars utilize a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 that cranks out 550 horsepower from 5250-5750 rpm, and 531 lb-ft of torque from 1750-5000 rpm.

If that’s not hot enough, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S-Model uses a tweaked form of that same 5.5-liter V-8, which in turn delivers 577 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 590 lb-ft from 2000-4000 rpm. The extra power whittles a tenth of a second from the 0-60 mph time (3.6 seconds versus 3.7), while the top speed limiter is raised from 155 mph to 186.

It’s unknown exactly when the amended 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG shown here will go on sale, but look for it to premiere sometime in 2014. Just don’t expect the oh-so-sexy CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake to finally come stateside.
