With the Land Rover LR2 nameplate set aside, the British automaker is gearing up to bring its replacement—the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport—to U.S. showrooms. A new space-themed teaser video for the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport gives us our first glimpse of the compact SUV’s interior, which will feature third-row seating to accommodate seven passengers.
We’d already seen a camouflaged 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport that hinted at the new three-row SUV’s interior, but this new footage shows the vehicle’s variable seating layout in action. The middle row will be able to both slide and fold, while the optional third row will at least be able to fold down to maximize trunk space. Other features the video hints at include a high-end audio system and a large panoramic sunroof.
The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport will draw much of its new styling from that of the Discovery Vision concept, which will likely inform the larger, forthcoming Land Rover Discovery (replacing the LR4). The Discovery Sport will likely be based off of a modified version of the Range Rover Evoque platform, with a long-wheelbase variant possibly dubbed the Discovery Grand in the works for 2016 or 2017.
Land Rover’s video also demonstrates at the brand’s business partnership with commercial spaceflight company Virgin Galactic. Promotional campaigns thus far for the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport have focused on themes of exploration, technological innovation, and the evolution of transportation, and it’s looking like Virgin Galactic could sponsor some kind of special-edition Discovery Sport.
Check back for more updates on the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport following the vehicle’s global reveal on September 2, when we’ll also learn more about a the automaker’s tie-in with Virgin Galactic.
