Lamborghini has finally come forth with details surrounding the long-awaited successor to the Gallardo, and it will be called the Huracán LP610-4. The Italian automaker will reveal the Huracán at the 2014 Geneva auto show, where its aggressive design and breathtaking performance figures are sure to be the talk of the event.
Contrary to earlier reports that it would receive the Cabrera moniker, the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán takes its name from yet another historic bull, this one a Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed which fought with courage and defiance in Alicante in 1879.
Like its namesake, the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán looks to be solid, stoic, and fearsome. Consistent with the spy shots we’ve seen, the design draws clear inspiration from big-brother Lamborghini Aventador, but Huracán looks leaner and even more agile. A defining feature is a single curved line that runs from the front of the cockpit over the roof, merging smoothly aside the rear window and intakes until it settles neatly at the slightly raised rear decklid. From this curved monolithic shape, sharper, more geometric incisions, characteristic of recent Lamborghini offerings, counter the gentle silhouette. Deep front and rocker sill intakes, inset hexagonal windows, and triangular motifs echoed between the full-LED headlamps and hood lines add an energetic, carved-in aesthetic.
The Huracán continues the sculpted design inside, with protruding hexagonal air vents and an angular dashboard. Matching its energy with luxury and performance features that are certain to please both driver and passenger, the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán sports Nappa leather and light-weight Alcantara as well as an innovative instrument panel. The 12.3-inch full-color display communicates all important information to the driver including navigation, rev counter, and infotainment, while the steering wheel boasts a hexagonal center column flanked by large paddle-shifters.
As nice as it looks to sit in the new 2015 Lamborghini Huracán, we all know that the true thrill will come from its intoxicating performance. Sharing its new hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber structure with the new second-gen Audi R8, the Huracán clocks in at 3135 lbs—just 26 lbs beefier than the outgoing Gallardo LP 560-4.
With near identical weight at its predecessor, the additional power adds major performance improvements. At a dizzying 8,250 rpm, 610 hp emanates from the supercar’s new 5.2-liter V-10, hurling the Lamborghini Huracán to a maximum speed of 202 mph. With 413 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm, the Huracán can reach 62 mph from a dead stop in just 3.2 seconds, and runs from zero to 124 mph in just under 10 seconds.
Power is transferred to a new fully-electronic four-wheel-drive system via a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and performance can be adjusted using one of three selectable driving modes. The driving modes, which range from road to full-on track insanity, affect gearbox and engine behavior, four-wheel drive performance, sound, and stability control. Both variable steering and suspension damper control systems are optional upgrades, while top-of-the-line carbon ceramic brakes come standard.
Although there’s no word now on a manual transmission or even a rear-wheel-drive variant, it’s possible this Lamborghini Huracán will spawn other variants — potentially with significantly reduced curb weights — at a later date.
The 2015 Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 debuts at the 2014 Geneva auto show before going on sale in late 2014. A Spyder version with the same powertrain and performance is expected to follow in 2015.
