2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe Spied Testing

The F-Type coupe is coming.

What are you to do if you love the 2014 Jaguar F-Type, but loathe convertibles? Well, Jaguar has a solution coming soon in the form of the fixed-roof 2015 F-Type coupe, which we’ve spotted during a test run.

Don’t let the black-painted roof and B-pillars fool you: this lightly camouflaged Jaguar is the hardtop version of the F-Type, which should launch next year. Just like the roadster, the coupe looks to be staying close to the design of the CX-16 concept first shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Arguably, this coupe is even closer to that concept than the F-Type convertible, as the CX-16 was also a fixed-roof two-door sports car. Like the CX-16, the roof on the production-spec F-Type gracefully arcs from the top of canted A-pillars, flowing onto the decklid and stubby tail. It also looks like the F-Type will maintain the rear hatch from the concept.

From the beltline down, the new Jag looks identical to its F-Type roadster sibling. That means we can probably expect to see the same powertrain offerings as the convertible – an eight-speed automatic will be mated to either a 340-hp (base) or 380-hp (S) supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, or to a 495-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 (V8 S).

We’ve previously reported that the F-Type coupe could potentially add a few more pieces to the powertrain mix, too: a manual transmission is rumored to be in the cards, as is the 2.0-liter turbo-four from the Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar XF. That’s not all, as Jaguar has also alluded to expanding the F-Type range even further. It’s assumed that there will be an F-Type R model that produces 510 hp from the 5.0-liter V-8, but there has also been murmuring that the British marque will also create a 550-hp F-Type R-S, in the same vein as the XFR-S and XKR-S. Jaguar global brand director Adrian Hallmark has also mentioned that the company is looking into producing more models like the limited-run XKR-S GT; we wouldn’t be surprised if an F-Type R-S GT is in the works.

Stay tuned, as the 2015 Jaguar F-Type coupe is expected to be unveiled early next year.
