2015 Jaguar F-Type coupe Spied at the Track

The Jaguar F-Type coupe gets a shakedown at the Nürburgring.

Ever since the 2014 Jaguar F-Type roadster was released at the Paris Motor Show in 2012, there has been endless speculation about when the coupe version would come to fruition. Our spy photographers recently caught another camouflaged prototype hitting the infamous Nürburgring in Germany.

The last time we spied an F-Type coupe testing, it was on public roads. The fact that Jaguar is now lapping this prototype at the Nürburgring could suggest that engineers are putting the final touches on the coupe’s handling prowess, especially given the additional structural rigidity that comes with a fixed-roof compared to a droptop.

The 2014 Jaguar F-Type roadster went on sale in the U.S. this year and starts at $69,000 for the model equipped with the 3.0-liter, 340hp supercharged V-6. Other models include the F-Type S with a 380hp version of the 3.0-liter V-6, and the F-Type V-8 S with a 495hp, 5.0-liter V-8. All three engine options are paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The coupe model should feature these same powertrains, and even more powerful R and R-S versions are likely in within the next year as well. Although some have maligned the lack of a manual transmission in this sports car, there is a distinct possibility that a row-your-own option will be available in the future.

Look for the F-Type coupe to be officially released sometime in early 2014.
