Chevrolet has revealed a concept previewing the police version of the redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe that will be called the Tahoe PPV. Available in pursuit and special service configurations, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV will showcase numerous modifications of the standard car that prepare it for police duty.
The Chevrolet Tahoe PPV will offer the same 5.3-liter V-8 from the standard Tahoe that is updated for 2015 with direct injection and cylinder deactivation for better fuel economy. This engine makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and is mated with a six-speed automatic. Whereas the previous Tahoe PPV pursuit model offered only rear-wheel-drive, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV will offer rear- or four-wheel-drive on the pursuit model in addition to the four-wheel-drive-only special service model.
Modifications for police duty include upgraded tires, brakes, and suspension, along with an auxiliary battery on the inside to power officers’ equipment. Chevrolet also says that the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV has the same exact dimensions as the previous model, which makes for an easy transfer of aftermarket police equipment — like the front pushbar and the roof-mounted light bar – from an old Tahoe PPV to a new one.
Chevrolet also offers PPV versions of the Impala and Caprice sedans. When the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV becomes available in early 2014, it will go up against the 2014 Ford Police Interceptor Utility and the Dodge Durango Special Service SUV.
