Audi has released the pricing information and options list for the upcoming 2015 Audi A3, allowing us to finally draw up an accurate price and equipment comparison with its chief entry-luxury rival, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250.
As we previously reported, the 2015 Audi A3, equipped with the 170-hp 1.8-liter turbocharged engine and front-wheel-drive in the base Premium trim, starts at $30,795 including destination. Standard equipment includes xenon headlamps and LED taillights, a sunroof, and leather seating—all optional equipment on the 208-hp front-wheel-drive 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250, which starts at $30,825 after destination. 2015 Audi A3 buyers can also opt for the more powerful 2.0-liter 220-hp turbocharged engine, the only way to get Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive, on any trim level for an additional $3000. Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system adds $2000 to the base CLA250’s sticker price.
In the base Premium trim, available options for the 2015 Audi A3 include a cold weather package ($500),an aluminum trim package ($450), and the MMI touchscreen and navigation ($1900). The navigation package must be bundled with a music interface and iPod integration option, with adds $350.
Opting for the Premium Plus trim ($2900) on a 2015 Audi A3 adds 18-inch wheels, keyless entry, and the aluminum package. Customers must spring for this trim or above to access handy options like the Driver Assistance Package (adding a rear camera with park assist for $1400), convenience package (adding power, heated, and auto-dimming mirrors for $750), and the Bang & Olufsen sound system ($850). Opting for the navigation package in this trim adds $2600 rather than $1900, because Audi’s connectivity service is included.
The Prestige package adds $8800 to the base price, and includes options from the Premium Plus and S-Line packages, as well as Driver Assistance, the premium sound system, Audi Connect, the convenience package, and full-LED headlights. Other options, also available in the middle Premium Plus trim, include the Advanced Technology package (adding adaptive cruise control and active lane assist for $1400); and a $550 sport package that adds selectable driving modes, sport seats, and an upgraded steering wheel.
Although the base 2015 Audi A3 includes more standard equipment than the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250, the values fall a lot more in line with one another as the options pile up. The 2015 Audi A3 totals $42,295 when equipped with all-wheel-drive, the cold weather package, navigation, a premium sound system, rear camera, and power-folding heated mirrors. A similarly-equipped Mercedes-Benz CLA250 4Matic costs $43,445.
The 2015 Audi A3 available for order now, with an Audi A3 Cabriolet, TDI, and performance S3 models set to join the lineup later in 2014. Last to arrive will be the plug-in hybrid A3 Sportback e-tron models planned for early 2015.
