2014 Scion FR-S Gains Release Series 1.0 Package

The 2014 Scion FR-S rear-wheel-drive sports car gets its first Release Series model this year called the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0. Whereas most of these Scion Release Series models comprise mild tweaks like nicer wheels, a body kit, and a new exterior color, this special edition actually adds TRD performance parts and some extra equipment.

This means that the Scion FR-S Release Series should offer a real performance bump over the standard FR-S, thanks to the addition of a TRD exhaust system and TRD lowering springs. These upgrades are backed up by a more aggressive exterior, which is painted in bright Yuzu yellow and features a body kit with a new lower front fascia and a rear spoiler. On the inside, the Scion FR-S Release Series gains a TRD steering wheel and shift knob, as well as a special pattern for the black upholstery. Each of the 1500 Release Series models also display a special sequential release badge near the shifter with a number between 1 and 1500 signifying each specific car’s place in the production run.

In addition to the performance kit, the FR-S Release Series gains features unavailable on other Scion FR-S models like pushbutton start, HID headlights, and dual-zone automatic climate control. You’d think that all of these upgrades would make for a significant price bump over the FR-S’ $25,455 starting price with destination, but Scion says that this model will still come in below $30,000, excluding destination. That’s a good deal considering the amount of equipment added to this Release Series model, which is available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Scion will release more specific pricing closer to the car’s on-sale date in August.
