The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid starts at $35,970 (including an $860 destination charge) in front-wheel-drive SV configuration. That’s exactly $3000 pricier than a standard 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SV, the price differential that Nissan promised when the Pathfinder Hybrid debuted earlier this year at the 2013 New York auto show.
The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid uses a supercharged 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine and a 15-kW electric motor to produce a total of 250 hp. A continuously variable transmission directs power either to the front or all four wheels, while a lithium-ion battery pack hides beneath the third row of seats. The hybrid returns 25/28 mpg (city/highway) with front-wheel drive, up from 20/26 mpg in a standard front-drive Pathfinder. The all-wheel-drive Pathfinder Hybrid returns 25/27 mpg, versus 19/25 mpg for the gasoline version.
The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid skips the base S trim level offered on the gasoline model and starts with the SV trim level, which costs $35,970 with front-wheel drive and $37,570 with all-wheel drive. Stepping up to the Pathfinder Hybrid SL requires $38,910 with front- and $40,510 with all-wheel drive. The top-spec 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid Platinum is $43,610 with front-wheel drive and $45,210 for the all-wheel-drive model. All of those prices represent a $3000 increase compared to the equivalent non-hybrid Pathfinder.
The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid’s price compares favorably to another three-row hybrid crossover. The 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, available only with four-wheel drive, starts at $41,030 after destination. It returns 28/28 mpg in EPA testing.
