2014 Nissan GT-R Special Edition

Nissan's supercar adds a new paint color and a carbon fiber spoiler.

The 2014 Nissan GT-R is one of the best performance buys on the market with its ridiculously powerful twin-turbocharged V-6. Nissan already revealed a new hardcore Track Edition GT-R, but for those with slightly less sporting intentions there is now a new Special Edition for 2014.

The highlight of the 2014 Nissan GT-R Special Edition is a unique exterior color called Midnight Opal, which Nissan says is applied by hand. The paint is slightly color-shifting as well, as it can apparently change from a purplish hue to more of a blue shade, depending on lighting angle.

Otherwise, the GT-R Special Edition uses the GT-R Premium as a starting point and adds a titanium coating on the wheels, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, and a gold-plated plaque in the engine compartment certifying the authenticity of the hand-build 545hp 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine.

All of these minor changes make for a significant $6,000 price increase over the Premium model. The GT-R Premium starts at $100,590, with destination, meaning that the Special Edition will start at $106,590, with destination, when it becomes available in late 2013. Nissan says will be produced in limited numbers.

Other versions of the GT-R include the Black Edition, which adds Recaro Seats, a carbon-fiber spoiler, and 20-inch performance wheels, and the Track Edition, which is also new for 2014 and features additional brake cooling, a track suspension, and lighter curb weight due to the removal of the rear seats.
