The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 now has a racy Sport Package Plus, the company announced. As an upgrade above the car’s existing Sport package, the Sport Package Plus treatment endows the CLA250 with even more aggressive looks.
The upgrade primarily adds more visual flair to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250: unique 18-inch AMG wheels, sport seats with red stitching, a red accent for the front fascia from the existing Sport package, and a matching red accent on the rear fascia. As to performance, the Sport Package Plus brings a new exhaust, sportier front suspension tuning, and the cross-drilled brakes of the regular Sport pack.
Pricing for the new package has not yet been announced. On a standard 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250, the existing Sport package is a $2200 option.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine rated for 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic directs power to the front wheels as standard, or optionally to the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Pricing starts at $30,825, including a $925 destination charge.
While the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 is no slouch, hitting 60 mph in a claimed 6.9 seconds, even with the Sport Package Plus it is not the pinnacle of CLA-Class performance. Drivers desperate for an even faster version of the coupe-like sedan should look to the CLA45 AMG. Its 2.0-liter turbo-four dispenses 355 hp to all four wheels, launching it to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
Update: A Mercedes spokesman said the Sport Package Plus will cost close to $4000 and should be available toward the end of this year.
