The 2014 Lexus CT200h will be the last Lexus model to gain the signature Lexus “spindle” grille, as a revised version of this compact hybrid hatchback will debut at the 2013 Guangzhou auto show next week. This is the first refresh for the Lexus CT200h since the car debuted in 2010.
The grille marks the biggest change up front, as the Lexus CT200h’s new face now fits in with the rest of Lexus’ lineup. The spindle grille shape is less extreme here than on other Lexus models, and this refresh is a more subtle change compared to recent implementations of the grille like on the 2014 Lexus GX460. Styling is revised around back as well, with new taillights and a slightly more aggressive rear fascia. New wheels round out the exterior changes, and Lexus will be releasing more details about the 2014 Lexus CT200h closer to its debut on November 21.
We don’t expect Lexus to announce any significant mechanical changes for this refresh. The Lexus CT200h is powered by a 1.8-liter, Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder mated with the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Total system power is 134 horsepower routed through a CVT, and the CT200h achieves EPA fuel economy ratings of 43/40/42 mpg city/highway/combined. A refresh is in order not only because the car has been on sale for four years unchanged, but also as U.S. CT200h sales are down 17.1 percent so far this year.
