The 2014 Dodge Durango has been significantly updated for this year, and one of the big changes is a new eight-speed automatic for all models. This new transmission helps the 2014 Durango achieve significantly higher EPA mileage ratings than before, allowing rear-wheel-drive, six-cylinder 2014 Dodge Durango models to achieve ratings as high as 18/25/20 mpg city/highway/combined.
This new rating is up two mpg city and highway from a comparable 2013 Dodge Durango, which was rated at 16/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined when equipped with the Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine and rear-wheel-drive. For 2014, all-wheel-drive Durango V-6 models post a similar improvement over last year with a 17/24/19 mpg rating.
The 2014 Dodge Durango is also available with a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 which is also mated to the eight-speed transmission. 2014 Durango V-8 models also receive a significant fuel economy bump on the highway, with ratings of 14/23/17 mpg with rear-wheel-drive and 14/22/16 for all-wheel-drive models compared with a highway rating of 20 mpg for both rear- and four-wheel-drive V-8 models previously.
The improved fuel economy figures puts the 2014 Dodge Durango more in line with the three-row crossover competition like the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, the 2014 Ford Explorer, and the 2014 Honda Pilot. Compared with these models, the rear-wheel-drive V-6 2014 Durango matches the front-wheel-drive, V-6 Pilot model in highway fuel economy and beats the front-wheel-drive, V-6 Traverse and Explorer, both of which are rated at 24 mpg on the highway.
The 2014 Dodge Durango is priced from $30,790 with destination and is available in five trim levels: SXT, Rallye, Limited, R/T, and Citadel. Other changes for 2014 include a new front fascia, LED “racetrack” taillights, and a revised interior design. The 2014 Dodge Durango is on sale now.
