Our spy photographers are by now well-accustomed to spotting the 2014 BMW M4 coupe out in public, but this model is the first we’ve seen in such a bold color. The burnt-red hue on this test car appears to match the Sakhir Orange Metallic paint that can also be optioned on the BMW M5 and M6.
Aside from its bright paint job, this 2014 BMW M4 resembles the other iterations of the performance coupe we’ve spied before. Its low-slung roofline, prominent bodyside crease, and angular nose are cribbed directly from the 2014 BMW 4 Series coupe; Clues that this model has been worked over by the M performance division include quad exhaust tips, a new front fascia with larger air inlets, gold brake calipers gripping enormous cross-drilled rotors, and large wheels in M GmbH’s familiar five split-spoke design.
The 2014 BMW M4 coupe will be joined by the M3 sedan and M4 convertible, all three of which will go on sale in the U.S. in summer 2014. Beneath the hood, the trio of performance cars will use a twin-turbo inline-six engine rated for 430 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque. The 2014 BMW M4 coupe will weigh close to 3300 pounds, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced polymers and aluminum.
Expect more official details on the 2014 BMW M4 coupe to emerge over the coming months as the car’s on-sale date approaches.
