Like the 2014 BMW 4 Series coupe, but live in warm, sunny climates? Then fret not, the 2014 BMW 4 Series convertible is on its way. According to our spy photographer who caught this red 4 Series convertible testing near the Nürburgring in Germany, the new droptop could be revealed as soon as this summer.
In case you missed it, what was formerly the BMW 3 Series coupe and convertible are migrating to the 4 Series moniker starting in 2014. The 4 Series convertible in these photos is wearing minimal camouflage, so we have a pretty good look at what BMW’s newest convertible will look like when it goes on sale – it will wear the same nose and tail as the coupe, while the roofline looks almost identical to that of the outgoing 3 Series convertible.
The car we caught is an M Sport line 435i painted in a bright shade of Melbourne Red. Expect the 4 Series convertible to mirror the packages and powertrains of the 4 Series coupe, with choices of a 240-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four (428i) or a 300-hp turbocharged I-6 (435i), paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. As is the case with the current 3 Series convertible, we don’t expect xDrive all-wheel drive to be available on the 2014 4 Series convertible, but do expect a high-performance M4 convertible variant down the line.
Stay tuned, since more information on the 2014 BMW 4 Series will likely emerge in the coming weeks before the car officially debuts.
