Thanks to the indiscretions of a French Internet forum, we now have our first semi-official look at the 2014 BMW 4 Series convertible. Unsurprisingly, it closely matches the prototype 2014 BMW 4 Series convertibles we spied testing multiple times over the past several months.
As these leaked photos show, the 2014 BMW 4 Series convertible will carry over much of the styling cues seen on the 2014 BMW 4 Series coupe. Its nose has a more prominent prow and narrower headlights than on the 3 Series sedan, and the droptop reprises the coupe’s “Air Breather” aerodynamic vents behind the front wheels. The power-folding hardtop appears to stow beneath a neat black plastic cover aft of the back seats, likely reducing trunk space somewhat compared to the coupe.
Powertrain choices for the 2014 BMW 4 Series convertible (seen in our spy pictures, below) will mirror those offered in the coupe. The 428i will use a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine good for 240 hp, while the 435i will pack a 300-hp punch thanks to a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. A six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic transmission are offered on either version.
We have also spotted prototypes of the 2014 BMW M4 convertible, which will be a high-performance model (linked with the M3 sedan and M4 coupe) packing a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six good for about 430 hp.
Expect to see the 2014 BMW 4 Series convertible make its public debut next month at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show. Production reportedly starts in November, so the car will reach U.S. showrooms by spring 2014.
