2013 Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander Get Trim, Equipment Changes

No radical changes are in store for Toyota’s trucks and Highlander SUV for 2013. Consolidation of popular equipment into new trim levels characterizes the bulk of the changes, with the Tacoma, Tundra and Highlander each gaining a new trim level, some of which were previously package option groups. To compete with its ever more lavish fullsize competitors, the Tundra adds a new top-of-the-line Platinum trim, as well as a TRD Rock Warrior package for those that like an aggressive appearance on their trucks.

2013 Toyota Tacoma Changes

The Tacoma already dominates the midsize truck segment, so Toyota figured not to mess with the truck’s fundamental strengths, but increase its appeal to core buyers. Along those lines, the new Tacoma Limited package adds SofTex-trimmed heated front seats, a four-way adjustable driver’s seat, variable-speed windshield wipers, metallic instrument panel trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with rear camera display, exterior temperature gauge, and a Homelink universal transceiver.

Double Cab V-6 models carry over the premium Display Audio head unit including HD Radio with iTunes tagging, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, and JBL GreenEdge energy-conserving technology. On Tacomas equipped with the Display Audio unit, the backup camera image is displayed through the head unit.

The T|X and T|X Pro packages introduced in 2012 carry over, as does the X-Runner performance street truck package. A TRD supercharger is available on all V-6 Tacoma models, boosting output to 304 hp and 334 lb-ft of torque. The supercharger carries a warranty of five years or 60,000 miles, or the remainder of the factory powertrain warranty when installed by a Toyota dealer.

2013 Toyota Tundra Changes

The big news for the Tundra for 2013 is the addition of a Platinum trim, and a TRD Rock Warrior Special Edition package on 4×4 models. The Platinum trim, formerly a package on the Limited model, becomes a stand-alone trim level. The plush package includes heated and ventilated front bucket seats, leather seating surfaces, a memory package, which includes two-position driver’s seat, exterior mirrors and steering wheel position memory, auto-dimming power-folding outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, navigation, power tilt/slide moonroof and woodgrain interior trim.

For those that want a more aggressive personality on their trucks, Toyota offers the TRD Rock Warriror package, which features Bilstein shock absorbers, 17-inch forged alloy wheels with LT285/70 R17 BF Goodrich T/A tires, a Rock Warrior exterior graphic, fog lamps, privacy glass, eight-way driver and four-way passenger adjustable black cloth bucket seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with backup display and HomeLink. If you want the rough and tumble image without giving up your comforts, the Rock Warrior package is also available on the Limited trim level, which includes all the comfort and convenience features of the premium trim with a more aggressive appearance.

2013 Toyota Highlander, Highlander Hybrid Changes

Like the Tundra, the Highlander creates a new trim level from what used to be a package. The new Highlander Plus model includes most of the equipment on the previous Tech Package, and adds new features including a rear back-up camera, a 3.5-inch multi-information display which includes a clock, outside temperature, fuel consumption and range information. On the versatility side, the Highlander Plus includes a lift-up glass hatch and one-touch fold-flat levers for the second-row seat. The Plus model also includes fog lights. The towing package is dropped from the four-cylinder model, leaving the V-6 as your only towing option, with a maximum capacity of 5000 lb.

All 2013 Highlander Hybrid models get the Display Audio headunit with navigation and Entune as standard. A Leather Premium Package replaces last year’s Leather Package, and includes a power tilt/slide moonroof, leather-trimmed heated seats, HomeLink, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and leather-trimmed steering wheel.

The Highlander Hybrid Limited model adds a JBL Premium Audio system, rear automatic climate control, and perforated leather seating surfaces.
