2013 Hyundai Elantra GT Will Start at $19,170

The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT is headed towards Hyundai dealerships across the country, and when it arrives it’ll start at $19,170 including a $775 destination charge. While it’s not the least expensive five-door hatchback in its base-model format, it does undercut the competition while offering more standard equipment.

At $19,170, the 2013 Elantra GT’s base price will get you a five-door hatchback with a 1.8-liter four cylinder engine that makes 148 horsepower, along with a six-speed manual transmission. Standard equipment includes driver-configurable steering weight (which allows the driver to shift between Comfort, Normal, and Sport modes), 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, power windows and locks, and a six-speaker audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio and a USB port.

An automatic transmission is $1000 more, and the style package — which includes larger wheels, a sport suspension, leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof — is $2750. The technology package adds $2750 on top of the style package’s price and adds a navigation system, rearview system, and automatic climate controls.

That $19,170 is less than the base prices of five-door hatchback competitors like the Toyota Matrix ($19,605), Mazda3 ($20,095), and Volkswagen Golf ($20,565), but it is some $325 more than the Ford Focus ($18,845).

However, The 2013 Elantra GT undercuts the competition when you factor in the additional standard equipment. If you specify all of the competitors with alloy wheels, a sunroof, satellite radio, heated seats, an automatic transmission, and Bluetooth connectivity–some of which the Hyundai Elantra GT has in its base form –the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT comes out ahead. At $22,920, a 2013 Elantra GT so equipped is $305 less than the VW Golf ($23,225), $790 less than the Ford Focus ($23,710), $1025 less than the Mazda 3 ($23,945), and $1245 less than the Toyota Matrix ($24,165).

Look for the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT to go on sale at dealers nationwide next month.
