2013 Buick Encore Named IIHS Top Safety Pick

Ten airbags keep Encore drivers safe.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has award its Top Safety Pick rating to the 2013 Buick Encore compact crossover. That means all 2013 Buick cars are Top Safety Picks. The Encore also received a five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2013 Buick Encore scored a “Good” result in IIHS front, side, and roof-crush tests. However, because the Encore scored only “Poor” in the new small-overlap front crash test, it did not receive the highest-ranking Top Safety Pick+ designation. The 2013 Buick Encore comes standard with ten airbags, including a driver’s airbag, as well as stability control, a backup camera, and the OnStar telematics system. Options include lane departure and forward collision warning systems.

The 2013 Buick Encore was introduced at last year’s Detroit auto show. It uses a 1.4-liter turbo-four engine and six-speed automatic transmission, with a choice between front- and all-wheel drive. Front-wheel-drive models achieve 25/33 mpg (city/highway) in EPA testing, while all-wheel-drive versions manage 23/30 mpg. Pricing for the compact crossover starts at $24,950 (after a $750 destination charge).
