The 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake will be unveiled at the New York show, according to Shelby American. Excited? Just wait until you see the output – tick the option boxes just right, and your super-‘Stang will crank out 800 horsepower. Yowza.
This isn’t the first time Shelby’s offered an aftermarket Super Snake package for the GT500, but it’s perhaps the most powerful. The standard Super Snake package allows output from the supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 to grow from 550 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque to a whopping 750 ponies and 590 pound-feet. If that isn’t enough, buyers can spend an extra $1500 for a polished Kenne Bell supercharger that allows that output to jump to 800 horsepower. Remarkably enough, that figure is attained while running on pump-grade gasoline (premium grade, undoubtedly), and is emissions-legal in all 50 states.
Other goodies on the 2012 GT500 Super Snake include a six-speed manual transmission with short-throw shifter, forged Shelby/Baer brakes with six-piston calipers, a unique fiberglass hood patterned after the 1967 GT500, and a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio. A handling pack, sourced from Ford Racing, throws in dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars and a front strut tower brace, but buyers can also opt for a handling pack built from Eibach components instead.
Pricing for the Super Snake package alone starts at $34,245, not including the $48,645 required to acquire a donor GT500 to build from. Play your options right, and you can easily watch that total ring in at just under $100,000 ($97,079, to be exact).
