2012-2014 Ford Focus Electric Recalled

Focus Electric vehicles can lose power to the wheels.

The Problem: In 2012-2014 Ford Focus Electric vehicles, drivers can experience a loss of power to the wheels along with a “Stop Safely Now” warning on the dash cluster. In this event, steering and braking still work normally so the car can be safely driven off the road, even though the driver cannot accelerate. The problem has to do with software anomalies in the powertrain control module.

The Fix: At no cost to the customer, dealers will reprogram the power control module. Customers can determine if their vehicle is included in the recall by entering their VIN number to the Safety Recall section of

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The software glitch involves 2,618 Ford Focus Electric vehicles, 2,455 of which are located in the United States.
