The Problem: If the hood of the 2012-2013 Volkswagen Passat is dropped or “closed abruptly,” the vibrations could cause the low-beam headlight bulbs to move within their fittings, preventing them from making electrical contact. While the driver would see a warning about headlight failure in the instrument cluster, this problem would make it harder for the driver to see, as well as making the car less visible to other motorists.
The Fix: Volkswagen will replace the headlight bulb housing to prevent this problem. The automaker will also inspect the hood bumper posts and, if necessary, adjust them so that dropping the hood closed will not impact the headlights.
Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 150,201 2012-2013 Volkswagen Passat sedans.
