Scion is no stranger to offering special edition variants of its three models, and today the automaker announced its latest offering, the 2011 xD Release Series 3.0. With a starting price of $17,625, the special edition hatchback should have no trouble attracting customers who seek some flair.
Scion started with a standard xD, bolted up a four-piece body kit and sprayed it in a dark brown hue it calls “xPRESSO.” The coffee-inspired color is only available on the special edition model. B-pillars are covered in a custom set of carbon fiber appliqués that bear the RS logo. All examples come with a stainless-steel numbered badge.
When equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, expect to pay $17,625 — $2005 more than a base xD — including $720 for destination fees. Opting for the four-speed automatic will cost an additional $800.
As the name suggests, this isn’t the first time Scion has built a special edition model to maintain interest in its offerings. The tC and xB have been transformed into limited-edition RS models six and seven times respectively.
Scion says the xD RS 3.0 will be limited to 1500 units and will begin arriving at dealerships later this month. Still early into the 2011 model year, more Release Series models are sure to drop in the not too distant future.
