First Look: 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic

If you’ve fallen hard for early Porsche 911s, then you’ll absolutely love the new Sport Classic. The new limited edition model, which debuts at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, draws inspiration from one of the greatest hallmarks in 911 history: the Carrera RS 2.7.

That inspiration, it seems, is largely cosmetic. The product of Porsche’s Exclusive division, the Sport Classic receives 19-inch wheels patterned after the early Fuchs rims, and a new interpretation of the classic ducktail spoiler out back. Porsche Exclusive also fits the 911 Sport Classic with a custom body kit (which resembles that of the new 911 GT3 RS), a double-bubble roof, unique front and rear lighting, and paints the car in a unique grey finish with subtle twin racing stripes.

Power comes courtesy of the same 3.8-liter flat-six found in the Carrera S, but power has been boosted to 408 hp. Porsche claims the Sport Classic, which is only available with a six-speed manual, can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds, and reach a top speed of 187 mph.

With only 250 examples scheduled for production, we imagine the Sport Classic will sell out just as quickly, despite a price tag that edges close to $230,000. Sadly, Porsche has no plans to offer this retro 911 to customers in North America — although its wheels may be available as dealer-installed accessories in the near future.
