Earlier this month, Mazda released a bevy of images of a camouflaged 2010 Mazda3 5-door hatchback. Now, preceding its official unveiling at the Bologna Motor Show on December 3, Mazda has released a handful of photos of the new 5-door sans-camo, smiling face and all.
Though official details are sparse, the 5-door closely resembles the 2010 Mazda3 sedan recently unveiled at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. Engine options for the hatchback are likely to be the same as the sedan’s, which include the excellent 2.0-liter four-cylinder carried over from the current Mazda3 and a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder also used in the Mazda6i. The latter engine replaces last year’s 2.3-liter engine, producing 11 more horsepower and 18 more lb-ft of torque for a total of 167 hp and 168 lb-ft. Available transmissions will likely include the 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic announced for the sedan.
Other features and options for the Mazda3 5-door will also likely mirror the sedan. For more information about the sedan, head over to our 2010 Mazda3 sedan review.
