Subaru had little to announce in the way of product at the Chicago auto show, but it did reveal it was giving big. As part of its “Share the Love” event, the automaker is donating nearly $5 million to five different charities.
During the “Share the Love” sales event, which ran between November 21, 2009 and January 4, 2010, Subaru promised to give $250 for each vehicle sold or leased to the customer’s choice of five charities. Seeing as the brand continued to find success in 2009 — in fact, it was a record year for Subaru, as it sold 216,652 cars — the donations became quite substantial.
The largest single donation goes to the ASPCA, which will receive $1,339,860.66. The Meals on Wheels Association of America will receive $1,135,376.46, while Subaru’s donation to Habitat for Humanity will total $1,094,917.66. The Boys and Girls Club and Natural Wilderness Association will receive $717,817.36 and $712,027.86, respectively.
2009 marked the second year of Subaru’s Share the Love event. Over the past two years, the automaker has donated roughly $10 million to these five charities.
