2010 Chicago: Chrysler Pitches Streaming TV; Jeep Builds Off-Road Course

Chrysler’s display may be somewhat light on new product, but that won’t stop the automaker from pulling out the stops during the 2010 Chicago auto show.

Undoubtedly, the largest attraction at Chrysler’s show display will be Camp Jeep, a 25,000-sq.-ft. indoor driving course. Show attendees will get a five-minute passenger ride on the track, chauffeured in the Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee, and Liberty. Obstacles include an 18-ft. hill, a section that simulates driving on fallen logs, and a 45-degree wedge. The on- and off-road track is supposed to highlight Jeep vehicles’ ground clearance, traction, stability, articulation, and suspension.

Chrysler’s live TV option, FLO TV, will also be on display. The $629 option adds 20 live channels, including CBS Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central, FOX News, MSNBC, MTV, NBC 2Go, and Nickelodeon. It’s available on the Chrysler Town & Country; Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander; Dodge Grand Caravan, Journey, and Nitro; and Ram 1500/2500/3500. If you own one of these vehicles (model year 2008 to 2010), you can purchase the service, so long as you have Mopar’s headrest- or seat-mounted DVD entertainment systems.

FLO TV carries a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on new vehicles or a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on retrofitted vehicles. FLO TV is the headline of a “connected” Dodge Grand Caravan that boasts all the infotainment systems Chrysler has available, including satellite radio, multi-language voice command, a dual-screen rear entertainment system, Sirius Backseat TV, mobile Wi-Fi from Uconnect, satellite navigation, and Bluetooth integration.
The Chicago auto show’s press days begins Wednesday, so stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest from the Windy City.
