The North American Car and Truck of the Year awards are some of the most prestigious automotive awards given in the U.S. This year, the finalists include three domestics, two German autos, and – for the first time ever – a Korean vehicle.
That Korean model is none other than the 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan, which will face off against the likes of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI and the 2009 Ford Flex. These three beat out some tough competition, including the Audi A4, BMW 1-Series, Cadillac CTS-V, Honda Fit, Jaguar XF, Lincoln MKS, Mazda 6, and Pontiac G8.
For the Truck of the Year, the finalists are the 2009 F-150, 2009 Dodge Ram, and the 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML320 Bluetec diesel. Other nominees included the BMW X6, Chevrolet Traverse, Honda Pilot, Infiniti FX, Nissan Murano, Subaru Forester and Volkswagen Tiguan.
The final votes will be cast by the top fifty automotive journalists in North America, while the winners will be officially announced at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
