Mitsubishi released a few computer-generated images of the upcoming Outlander Sport crossover during its press conference today. The vehicle is named RVR in Japan, but there are numerous reports that Mitsubishi will call its CUV Outlander Sport once it goes on sale in the U.S.
Outlander Sport will be smaller and more fuel efficient than the Outlander. Japan will naturally be the first country to get the RVR/Outlander Sport and sales are expected to begin next spring. Mitsubishi officials aren’t saying when we might get the new cute ute, but a safe guess is probably about six months. There was also an announcement that a new global compact car will be coming in 2012, which is widely believed to be called Colt for the U.S. market.
Mitsubishi’s other interesting news is a partnership with Best Buy for Geek Squad technicians to drive i-MiEVs for service calls. Right now the partnership is quite limited, but it could turn into a bigger deal. It’s worth noting that Best Buy currently sells the Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle in some stores. Is Best Buy planning to get more involved the in emerging electric vehicle market?
