Lexus will offer all-wheel-drive on the 2009 LS 460 sedan, previously the LS 460 was only rear-wheel drive.
The LS460 is actually late to the Lexus all-wheel drive party, as the IS, GS and LS600h sedans already offer the feature. The system, which will be available on both the regular and long-wheelbase models, is nearly identical to that on the LS600h. A Torsen limited slip differential distributes anywhere from 30 to 50 percent of the vehicle’s torque to the front wheels, depending on driving conditions. The drivetrain is otherwise identical to the rear-wheel drive models save for the fact that the 4.6-liter V-8 has been detuned to 357 hp and 344 lb-ft of torque.
Lexus has not announced pricing on the all-wheel-drive option, but one can expect it to come in around $2,000, as it has on the GS and IS models. We’ll know for sure once the awd cars start hitting the showrooms.
