Though the British marque will soon be part of an Indian company’s portfolio, Jaguar can still do style and luxury right.
Previewing its new XJ and XKR Portfolio Special Edition vehicles at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar reveals it will continue pushing its usual cosmetic upgrade package before any official Tata takeover.
The XJ Portfolio gets two exclusive paint choices (Celestial Black and Astral Gold), along with two unique interior trim options (Navy and Champagne colored), Jaguar “heritage” badging, 20-inch alloy wheels, and chrome design touches. The XKR portfolio will also get its own exclusive paint color (Shadow Grey metallic), 20-inch alloy wheels with a special shadow finish, and Portfolio signature scripts on door sills and carpets. Most XJ and XKR luxury options will be included with the Portfolio package.
The XJ can be ordered with either a normally aspirated (300– hp) or supercharged (400 hp) 4.2-liter Jag V-8. The R in XKR means it’s supercharged only. All cars use Jaguar’s 6-speed automatic transmission.
Jaguar says Portfolio XJs and XKRs are “built in limited numbers to offer new levels of luxury, craftsmanship and exclusivity,” but exact production volume has not been made available.
Both cars can be ordered now with production beginning in the spring.
