2009 European Honda Accord

North America will get this Accord, but it won’t be called a Honda.

Honda will unveil its European Accord at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. As a wider, and slightly lower evolution of the previous Accord, the new Honda is basically what Americans will know as Acura‘s TSX, complete with the same all-new front and rear suspension, and improved body rigidity. However, the Accord starts its life with more engine choices than the TSX.

European shoppers will choose between a new, 150-hp diesel engine, a 2.0-liter or a 2.4-liter gasoline VTEC, the latter good for 200 hp and 187 lb-ft of torque. All three engines are matched to a 6-speed manual transmission, while both gasoline engines can be had with a 5-speed automatic.

As previously reported, Honda says the TSX will be available with the Accord’s diesel within a year of its launch. If the engine does appear in America, Acura will become the first Japanese automaker to offer a diesel powerplant in the United States.

Expect to see the Accord in European showrooms starting this spring.
