Preview: 2008 Tesla Roadster

ON SALE: NOW / $98,950

After much hype, the Tesla Roadster finally arrives this fall. Some 6831 interconnected lithium-ion batteries power the 2600-pound sports car from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. Tesla says that the Roadster will have a range of just over 200 miles and take about five hours to charge from a standard, 220-volt household outlet. Tesla’s second model, a four-door sedan, is planned for 2009.
