Preview: 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake

ON SALE: NOW / $70,670

For those who think that the 540-hp GT500KR is the ultimate ‘Stang, meet the 600-hp, 590-lb-ft GT500 Super Snake. The Snake is built by Shelby Automobiles, which uses a GT500 as the starting point and adds, among other things, a Ford Racing supercharger upgrade. But get this: if you’re willing to forgo a factory warranty, Shelby will build you a 725-hp Snake. The Snake also gains suspension modifications, a Borla exhaust, a Ford Racing short-throw shifter, and a 3.73:1 rear-axle ratio. The aggressive cosmetic treatment also will leave no doubt among observers that this is the big-dog Mustang (if the price hasn’t already convinced them).
