2008 Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan Recalled for Airbag Issue

2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Voyager, 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

The Problem: A grommet sealing the HVAC system for the affected minivans may have leaked moisture onto the Occupant Restraint Control computer module. If so, the ORC’s circuits could have become damaged, causing a malfunction of the airbag system — either an illuminated malfunction light or unexpected airbag deployment. Chrysler has not received any reports of injuries stemming from this problem. The minivans were previously recalled in January 2011 to repair the HVAC grommets, but at that time the ORC electronics were not replaced.

The Fix: Chrysler will inspect and repair affected minivans, replacing the ORC module free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in September.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 299,718 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans. Of those, 232,086 were sold in the U.S. and 50,251 were sold in Canada.
