MONTREAL Last year, the fine-driving Spec B was a get-it-now special–only 500 were built. For 2007, it’s a full-fledged model and adds stability control, a Torsen rear differential, and the WRX STI’s six-speed manual. With the new SI-Drive system, you can have your ECU served up in one of three flavors: Sport is the default setting and returns performance nearly identical to last year’s car. Sport Sharp remaps the throttle for maximum go. Intelligent mode restricts power–and fun–by twenty percent for better fuel mileage in non-steady-state driving. With duller throttle response making for a less enthusiastic turbo, Intelligent mode strikes us as less than smart.
