Adding a John Cooper Works GP Kit to your S gets you all of the standard performance upgrades; more power output, more braking power, more competent suspension, more distinctive exterior appearance, and fewer interior amentities. Gone is sound damping material, the rear seat, and the A/C unit (available free of charge upon request). In their places comes a slew of engine upgrades including a modified head and a unique intercooler to handle extra heat generated from the higher compression from the supercharger. Intake and exhaust are modified to free up the breathing and the Electronic Control Unit is recalibrated to maximize power and drivability. All of this brings power up to 207 horsepower at 6,950 rpm and 180 foot pounds at 4,500 rpm. To put all of the power to the ground, a GKN Driveline limited slip differential is added at the factory.
A John Cooper Works badge shows up on the deck lid and a commemorative plaque is underhood, on the valve cover to distinguish this super Cooper from its lesser bretheren. Just to make sure that everyone knows you are driving a fast car, it gets a special body kit which MINI claims “distinctly” reduces drag while increasing downforce on both axles. The Chilli Red mirrors which “distinctly” contrast with the grey-blue body color. Factory installed, the kit adds an extra $6,300 to the price of the S model, done at the dealership it adds $4,650 plus 10 hours of labor. The kit is fully backed by MINI’s 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty.
