2006-2009 Hyundai Azera Recalled for Potential Air Bag Problems

Though Hyundai had a stellar 2009 in terms of sales and publicity, not everything is coming up roses for the Korean automaker. It kicks off 2010 with an Azera sedan recall.

According to a release at the National Highway and Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), Hyundai will begin recalling 65,226 Azera models from the 2006 through 2009 model years for a failure-prone piece of wiring. The wiring in question is the harness for the right front seat belt tension sensor, which may become damaged after repeated belt use. Should damage occur, the air bag may not deploy in the event of an accident, increasing risk of injury.

As expected, Hyundai is fixing the issue free of charge beginning in February. Hyundai will notify owners of the affected Azeras, and owners can contact Hyundai to schedule service.
