2006 Hyundai HCD10 Hellion Concept

[cars name="Hyundai"] went wild at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show with the introduction of the HCD10 Hellion concept. This compact three-door aims to put a little more sport into sport-utility vehicle. It has a 3.0-liter common-rail diesel V-6 that routes 236 horsepower and 322 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Its short overhangs underscore its sportiness, aided by a steeply raked windshield, a hood scoop, and dual chrome exhausts. The taillights appear to be floating in the rear quarter windows–a cool touch–and we really like the ribbed body structure visible through the exterior sheetmetal.

The Hellion is, of course, just a concept, but keep in mind that manufacturers often use concept cars to test out different design directions. Therefore, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the Hellion’s styling cues in future production models. Perhaps even as early as next year, when Hyundai’s Veracruz crossover SUV is introduced to the world.
