2005 Honda Odyssey

Six years after establishing itself as the clear minivan champ, the Odyssey aims to fend off pesky challengers such as the and the revamped Chryslers. New features include 15 more hp for the V-6, available cylinder deactivation for better fuel economy, and a new five-speed automatic. Eight-passenger seating is available, and the famous third-row bench seat now splits and folds into the floor in two halves, like the Sienna‘s. The DVD screen is bigger, there are standard side-curtain air bags for all three rows, and a new Touring model crams in luxury features such as a power tailgate.

ON SALE: September 2004
PRICE: $25,000-$34,000 (est.)
ENGINE: 255-hp, 3.5-liter V-6
BOTTOM LINE: It’s a much tougher segment to dominate than it was back in 1999.
