The Problem: The fuel pump filter for the 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey can degrade and crack over time, allowing it to leak fuel which could start a fire. Honda first realized there was a problem in October 2012 after an excessive number of warranty claims for replacement fuel pump parts. The cover for the fuel pump filter can crack or degrade due to heat or due to the acidic elements in power carwashes. Although Honda says it has 187 warranty claims for failure of the part, no fires or injuries have been reported so far.
The Fix: Honda will inspect affected vehicles and, if fuel is leaking, replace the cover immediately. All affected vehicles will receive new covers eventually, but because the recall covers such a large number of vehicles, Honda doesn’t expect to have enough replacement parts until this summer.
Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 886,815 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey minivans built between June 2004 and September 2010.
