2003 New York Auto Show: Toyota Camry Solara

The second-generation Camry Solara coupe hews closely to the path trod by its predecessor. The new Solara is offered with four-cylinder or V-6 power, in SE, SLE, or SE Sport trim. The V-6 is a new, 3.3-liter unit making 225 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque; it’s offered exclusively with a five-speed sequential automatic transmission. The 157-horsepower, 2.4-liter four can be paired with a conventional five-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. The Sport version includes firmer springs and dampers, aerodynamic body add-ons, and seventeen-inch wheels. A navigation system, satellite radio, and side curtain air bags are new options. The Solara goes on sale in August; the base SE will start under $20,000.
