Jumping the gun by a year, Ford announced three special editions of the current Mustang to celebrate the pony car’s fortieth birthday on April 17, 2004. The first to arrive will be this Mustang 40th Anniversary Edition, which debuts this fall as a 2004 model with strictly cosmetic enhancements, such as three paint colors, including exclusive-to-Mustang crimson red; decal striping; special wheels; and a few interior tweaks. The production run will total 5700 units, and Ford promises to “keep the package very affordable.” It will be offered on both base Mustang and GT and in both coupe and convertible body styles. What about the all-new Mustang that debuted at this year’s Detroit show in concept form, you ask? We likely won’t see the production version until at least fall 2004, as a 2005 model.
