2004 New York Auto Show: Lincoln Zephyr Concept

In New York, Lincoln previewed its new, entry-level model, the Zephyr, which will be the least expensive Lincoln (think $30,000) when it goes on sale late next year. Shown here as a concept, the production car will have a higher ride height, smaller wheels (eighteen-inch, not nineteen), more pronounced bumpers, and less brightwork. Based on Mazda 6 underpinnings, the Zephyr uses a V-6 engine and an automatic transmission driving the front wheels, with all-wheel drive coming later. Ford and Mercury also will sell versions of this car, although the Lincoln gets unique body panels (save the doors and roof), more horsepower, and a restyled interior.
