Jeep Company Overview
Jeep is a brand under the Chrysler Corporation which is the other half of the auto company, DaimlerChrysler. Jeep's origins can be traced as far back as 1941 where it was a marque under the now discontinued Willys-Overland Motors. Willys was later purchased by the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation in 1953. Jeeps are known worldwide for their rugged, off-road prowess. The original definition of the word, though, is myriad in history from an abbreviation of the words "General Purpose" to the slang term for an airplane or new military recruit. Jeep vehicles, though, are based on military vehicles and were built for the Department of Defense by American Bantam, Ford Motor Co., and Willys-Overland.
Well-known Jeeps include the Cherokee, Comanche, and the Wrangler. Some of the brand's latest vehicles include the all-new Commander, Patriot, and the Compass, the brand's first crossover. Chrysler is reported to be looking to reintroduce the brand in China.
