ON SALE: EARLY 2008 / $220,000 (est.)
The long-awaited, high-performance, track-ready version of the F430 won't be called the Challenge Stradale, as its 360 predecessor was. Instead, it will be known as the 430 Scuderia. Ferrari concentrated on lowering the weight and increasing the power from the standard F430, so the Scuderia weighs 2755 pounds (dry) - a savings of 220 pounds - while producing an extra 24 hp over the F430, for a total of 503 horses. This works out to a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp to 5.4 pounds. Bravissimo! As usual, Ferrari took advantage of its Formula 1 racing brain trust, updating the F1 Superfast paddleshift transmission to bring shift times down to a lightning-quick 60 milliseconds. The traction and stability systems also get racing-informed updates. The 430 Scuderia will be unveiled by former Ferrari Formula 1 star Michael Schumacher at the Frankfurt auto show in September.
