Outwardly, it looks similar to the old Suburban, but the new full-size truck rides on a reworked, fully boxed frame and features a new coil-over-damper front suspension as well as rack-and-pinion steering for the first time. The sheetmetal is all new, too, and features smoother panel gaps and more aerodynamic styling. The refinements are carried over to the interior, which is of much better quality than previously and is even more spacious. New options include powered second-row seats and a powered liftgate. The Suburban will be available at launch with a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that produces 320 hp and 340 pound-feet of torque. Shortly after launch, a 6.0-liter V-8 will be available, rated at 355 hp. Standard safety equipment includes stability control that has roll-over protection and front-side air bags. Full-length curtain air bags are available. Suburbans are fitted with seventeen-inch wheels and tires, but there are optional rims available up to twenty inches in diameter. The truck will be offered in LS, LT, and LTZ models, in two- and four-wheel-drive guise.
