Vehicle Summary

The Aventador is Lamborghini's flagship model, and it's the archetypal supercar. It's really big, really loud, and really, really fast. It has a 691-hp V-12 engine. It has rear-biased all-wheel drive. It has a seven-speed automatic transmission that can shift in 50 milliseconds. It will launch from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds and will go on to a peak speed of 217 mph. It can do that ridiculous speed regardless of body style -- coupe or roadster. Both the coupe and the roadster are built around a carbon-fiber passenger tub that helps keep curb weights down. Buyers who want something smooth and refined should look at the McLaren MP4-12C or the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT, but folks who want the prototypical, classic, brutish supercar would be happy with the Lamborghini Aventador.

Overview

The Lamborghini Aventador replaced the Murciélago, and those were some pretty big shoes to fill. As one of the world's preeminent supercars, the Murciélago was devastatingly quick and, despite its demure-for-Lambo looks, loud and brash. The Aventador takes a big step forward, technologically speaking. Its seven-speed automatic transmission uses only one clutch but is lighter than comparable dual-clutch setups, and it snaps off gearshifts like a machine gun. Power comes from a 6.5-liter V-12, which is cleaner and more efficient than the old engine. It manages to be more powerful, too, putting out 691 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. The Aventador uses carbon-fiber construction throughout its body (the passenger cell is one solid tub of carbon fiber), which keeps weight down despite the car's hulking size. The Aventador draws visual comparisons to a jet fighter, but it could draw performance comparisons, too. This Lambo can go from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds and tops out at 217 mph, putting it in a very elite club of 200-plus-mph supercars. It lacks a bit of the polish found in its closet competitors, particularly the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT and the McLaren MP4-12C, but the Aventador is much more desirable and much, much more seductive. It's the ultimate metamorphosis of the Italian sports car. If you have the money to spend, parking an Aventador in your garage is a one-way ticket to a world of speed and striking looks.

Lamborghini Birthday Party Video
Imagine you are seven years old. Imagine you are obsessed with Lamborghini. Imagine a fleet of Lamborghini supercars shows up to your birthday party, and you get a ride in a blacked-out Aventador. A young California boy named Jacob got the chance to live out this fantasy, after his father put out a request to the Lamborghini North Los Angeles Facebook page.
